Stannington/Plessey Woods/River Blyth
Wednesday 30th July 2025. Date moved from the Thursday due to Group Leader not being available on that day.
Next rove for our happy wanderers is a really nice one starting at the Ridley Arms in Stannington and crossing the A1 and under the East Coast Line railway. Across the Briery Hill farm lane and then over the sheep fields to the Plessy woods. We go over a stile and turning left then right to the steps and a bench seat that leads down to the river.
There we travel through the ancient woodland where kingfishers can be spotted (I saw two on the recce) to then walk under a massive viaduct https://www.bridgesonthetyne.co.uk/plesvia.html that the East Coast trains fly over. Back over the A1 and up the old road to the village for a seat outside and a coldy.
