Lysdon Farm Circular

The date and time has changed to 0900 on 21st May due to holidays.
We will start at the Blyth FC (u3a meeting rooms) car park 0900 Thursday 21st May the change of date being because of the school holidays and the group leader will be unavailable the week after. There will be a walk through some woods and across a field where there are normally two or three horses, I’ve walked this many times and the horses are tame and are more interested in munching but may be curious. This is a public right of way and is used by many dog walkers and strollers.
We can stop for a break at the Lysdon farm:
We then turn left onto the bridleway that leads to the Eve Black Way by the Gloucester Lodge Farm and then a walk to the cafes at the beach for a comfort break and a cuppa.
History:
- The Gloucester Lodge Farm was originally called East Lysdon Farm.
- In 1795, the farm was renamed Seaton Sluice after the Duke of Gloucester used it as his headquarters during a military review. The reason why it is now called Gloucester Lodge Farm is that the Gloucester Regiment was camped, or lodged near the beach to stop that nasty Napoleon from invading England from Blyth beach!
- The remains of a Second World War anti-aircraft battery are located in the field across from the farm.
Then when everyone is ready we can walk back along South Newsham Road to the Blyth FC car park.

Stroll report
A bit of a dull day, spitting on in the morning but stopped by 9am. Some muddy parts and the horse field was OK though Julie's bright red jacket attracted an old fella! Distracted it with a Mentos 🐴
